Confession: I'm a mom and I am political. From time to time I have been encouraged to keep my opinions to myself, that politics lends itself to distasteful conversations, its unpleasant. The politics of being a mom in the early part of the 21st century are crazy. The mom wars are at an all time high and pinterest has us all feeling like we're inadequate if not complete failures at motherhood. I go out for coffee and drinks with my mom friends and I keep it polite, but the news gets me going, I have opinions about stuff and sometimes I am downright angry about injustice and violence in our society. I can't pretend anymore that it doesn't matter or is unpleasant. You are damn straight, its unpleasant to talk about things like children being mowed down in their classrooms by mass murderers and you know what's even more unpleasant? The fact that we're unable as a society to reach any sort of agreement about how to deal with it. Politics is part of our lives, the political is personal as much as the reverse is true and as a mom, it would be nice to feel like I am not alone in feeling like politics is not a dirty word, its part of our lives that we should share with each other.
If you are a political mom and you'd like to contribute, shoot me an email.
Enjoy!
